New City Jewish Center is such a warm and welcoming place. Unlike a previous reviewer, we've found the preschool, school and rabbinic staff to be incredibly friendly, going out of their way to make sure all of our needs are met. We loved our most recent class there and can't wait to take more!
I've been here a few times on high holidays. The rabbi (Berkman) is anti-intellectual. A couple years ago, on Yom Kippur, he went on a diatribe on the "evils of intermarriage." He also went on to mention that his grandfather was a Gentile. The whole speech was rambling and illogical. My husband and I are of different faiths. We got up and walked out of the synagogue. If he wants to keep the Jewish faith intact, then perhaps scare tactics are not the best option, just my humble opinion. We walked out and we will never, ever be back again. Again, your grandfather was raised in a different faith but you want to lecture people on not inter-marrying? Hypocrisy, much?
We are very happy at this warm, welcoming and inspiring synagogue. Our son having his Bar Mitzvah there after going through the Hebrew School and it's been a great experience all around. The teachers are great and have experience and patience. The Rabbi's are incredible. We highly recommend!
NCJC is the largest conservative synagogue in Rockland County with the most to offer. There is something for everyone of all age groups and interests. I have enjoyed the opportunities for volunteering, meeting new people, making lasting friends, and growing spiritually. My children thrived with the help of the Hebrew School. NCJC is a very welcoming place.
